Thank you Katy for your comments.

I do agree somewhat that you can probably find cheaper, fresh produce from places like Food City. Yes, it is a challenge getting to the site so early in the morning, however, please note that not all sites have a 6:45am time slot, some are a little later.

However, the reason I like Bountiful Baskets is because it is a way that supports our local or somewhat local food growers. It is also can be a challenge to use every item in the basket and I admit I don't frequently buy from Bountiful Baskets, but I do on occasion.

Another co-op produce group called Green Bee Produce that I tried and it seemed a little more reasonably priced, and supports the local schools in our area. You might want to try that. Most site pickups are at local schools and are done mid day. Food items are boxed for you, so no need to bring your own "basket".

Thanks again for the feedback :)

I went to bountiful baskets for the first time today. I ordered the extra fruit pack, for an extra 10 dollars, so I paid 29.50 all together. Here is what I received:

2 heads of lettuce, 1 cabbage, 2 cucumbers, 1 tomato, 1 celery, 5lbs bananas 7 lbs of grapes, 2 pomegranites, 1 package of strawberries, 2 avocados 6 lbs of apples, 5 individual small pears and 8 kiwi fruit.

While I don't feel ripped off, I feel that I could have bought the same amount, or more, from Food City. The bananas are normally 59 c a pound there, and sometimes on sale for 3 lbs for a dollar. I can't eat the avocados due to allergies, but I will eat everything else. Is it worth 30 bucks to have to get up at 6:45 and to be "threatened" with forfeiture if you are more than 20 minutes past your time slot? I don't know about other people, but I won't be going back. However, for those who shop at expensive stores instead of Food City, I'm sure it may be a good deal. Katy

Thank you for the insight and feedback. Yes, I do kick myself for not waiting longer for the parent or police and I'm sure I'll do differently next time ....but I sure do hope there isn't a next time. I do know about remote start and understand the key differences in your situation however, remote start is not a babysitter and was never intended to be. Nevertheless, though the police didn't ticket you, they did do their job and deter you from repeating the behavior. I would love to live in a world or time where theft and/or kidnapping was non-existent but sadly, we don't. Im not looking to punish anyone, I'm just trying to create an awareness. Kids are precious and vulnerable. Parents put their kids in potentially dangerous situations all the time and wonder why bad things happen. All I ask is that parents think about safety first and convenience second.

Hello, I would like to comment on your post, being that I did this once years ago when my child was small and someone called the police on me too. Heck it may have been you! :) My son was less than 1 year old and he had fallen asleep in the car after having ran many errands for the day. We had one last stop...the bank. I wanted to make a quick deposit at the teller and felt comfortable with the idea of leaving him in the car with it running. Let me just mention that I have never done it since, and not because I think it was wrong, but because I don't want to bring myself the added stress that dealing with police officers causes me. Now here is the difference with what happened in my situation, and the critical peice of information as to why I felt comfortable doing it. Our truck has a remote start. Therefore I was able to leave my son in the car with it running, air and all, doors locked and the keys where in my pocket. The bank I went into was small and the entire front of the building had glass windows. I was pulled up directly in front of the building and at no point could I not see my vehicle. While in the bank 2 min later I saw a police officer pull up behind my truck and I immediatly went out side, to see what was going on. The police officer told me that someone had flagged her down while she was driving through the parking lot to report a child left in the vehicle. The police officer then attempted to open my vehicle door and I could tell she was suprised to find that it was locked and yet my vehicle was still running. Many people are not aware of remote start vehicles, not to mention that I could have pressed the alarm at any point from the keys in my pocket in order to draw attention to my vehicle if need be. Now back to my story, so the officer then explained that I should not do that, and I explained that the doors where locked and I could see my vehicle from inside, and then she preceeded to give me statistics of the year's car thefts. We went back and forth like this for a few minutes and I was feeling angry about the whole situation. Angry mostly because I felt like I was being judged and being told that I was a bad mother because of the decision I had made. In the end the officer told me not to do it again, but there was no ticket, no fine, just a warning of sorts. Now I strongly feel that the officer would have given me a ticket if I had actually broken a law, because as most cops go, if you disagree with them, their type-A personalities get supercharged and they will slap you down with as many fines that they can legitimately pass down. So, what I am trying to say is that I don't feel that I put my son in any more danger than I do when I leave the house with him and there is a chance that I could get mugged. I felt that the chances that someone would be able to pull off breaking into my vehicle in broad daylight directly infront of a bank with several witnesses and then hotwiring my vehicle to restart. Oh did I mention that although it is running you cannot drive without the key, and if you put your foot on the brake without a key the engine immediatly shuts off. So in a matter of 10 minutes that I would be inside the bank, my chances of somone pulling off that theft, in my opinion was extremly unlikely. I don't believe that it is fair for one mother to assume that she is making a better judgement call about someone else's child. That is like saying that you are going to call the police on someone because they yelled at their child and you believe strongly in postive discipline. Although I do recognize that we all have our own way of parenting and its hard not to think that our way is the best way. Pushing your beliefs and rules on others is absurd. If you are really concerned about the well being of the child then why don't you wait outside the car they were left in and make sure that whatever YOU are scared might happen to them, doesn't. Otherwise it just seems to me that you are looking to punish their parents for not having the same parenting beliefs that you do.

thanks for the insight jordan. i agree. i totally cringe at the thought of the potential for racism, however, there are so many immigrants who went through the proper channels to come to this country legally and stay here. we recently found out that your great great grandmother made sure to fill out papers every year to ensure the family could stay in the US legally.
The tough thing is that people don't understand that the law is not about stopping people randomly, only should someone be doing something against the law and show signs of potential illegal status, like not being able to show proper ID or not understanding or speaking English well enough to be understood....there is a long list of "signs".
But, seriously, if I were doing something illegal, got stopped, and did something for the officer to suspect my immigration status....I really have nothing to hide, so what's the big deal.

While it's tough to not feel a twinge of racism concerning this law, especially considering all the friends I have made that are probably illegal, I can't help but be completely for it. I know, I know. As an Obama supporter and semi-liberal, this law is supposedly against what i believe in. It's just that, being married to an immigrant has shown me just how unfair illegals are being treated. Nao and I have had to pay a bunch of money and jump through a myriad of hoops, sign paper work, fill out forms, go down to the immigration offices, "prove" our marriage with photos and letters, and all so she can just get her green card, that is only temporary for two years before we have to pay more money, jump through more hoops and fill out more paperwork, to get it renewed. And illegal immigrants want to just be granted citizenship if they've been here for ten years. Nao's been here for ten years! Legally! So, if they have to show identification and prove they're legal when they are doing something illegal, then what's the big freakin deal?

Marrying your 15-year-old daughter off to keep her boyfriend from being deported is the worst idea i've ever heard of.
